Overview — Healey Falls Swing Bridge

The Healey Falls Swing Bridge sits close NW of Lock 15 at the picturesque Healey Falls settlement. CHS reports this bridge is normally kept open. At just 4 ft closed clearance, it would block virtually all vessels when closed. Healey Falls locks (Locks 15, 16, and 17) provide a combined lift of 76 ft across three chambers, one of the most dramatic elevation changes on the waterway.

Located close NW of Lock 15 on a 1.4 km channel bypassing rapids. A rock ledge extends from the west shore midway between Locks 15 and 16. A small gravel launching ramp is in the basin between the locks.

This bridge is normally kept open, so you typically pass through without delay. However, verify the bridge position before committing to the channel. The Healey Falls provide one of the most scenic views on the waterway — worth the 10-minute walk from the west shore, across the highway bridge, and down to the falls on the east shore.

Rock ledge extends from west shore between Locks 15 and 16. Overhead power cable close SE of Lock 15: 49 ft (14.9 m). Cables SE of Lock 16: 46 ft (14 m) minimum.
