In the early hours of July 27, a boat struck an island on Kennisis Lake in the Haliburton Highlands. Three occupants sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the collision. The Haliburton Highlands OPP investigation determined the 20-year-old operator from Bobcaygeon was impaired, and she was charged with Operation While Impaired (BAC over 80). Incident photos show the white center-console boat with Mercury outboard run aground against rocks and trees on the island with visible hull damage. OPP reminded boaters that consequences of impaired operation are identical whether behind the wheel or at the helm. Source: Haliburton Highlands OPP / Kawartha 411.
An impaired Sea-Doo operator collided with a boat docked at a lakeside residence on Lakeshore Road West in Oro-Medonte Township on Lake Simcoe. The impact caused serious, life-threatening injuries to the PWC operator, who was airlifted by Ornge air ambulance to a Toronto-area trauma centre. Two males were taken into custody at the scene. The operator was charged with Operation While Impaired (alcohol) and Operation While Impaired (BAC over 80). OPP confirmed the Sea-Doo was not a rental unit. Source: OPP / Orillia Matters.
A white powerboat was captured on witness video speeding at high speed through a group of 20-30 fishing boats anchored in McGregor Bay on Rice Lake. The operator made sudden U-turns and rushed back through the fleet a second time. Witnesses reported the boat increased speed without warning as it entered the fishing area. OPP confirmed this was an extremely dangerous operation — anyone could have been thrown overboard or struck at any point. The operator was identified through anonymous tips after media coverage, arrested, and charged with Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle under the Criminal Code. During a weekend marine patrol across eight Kawartha Lakes including Buckhorn, Chemong, and Mississauga, OPP marine unit officers stopped a vessel on Chemong Lake and found the operator under the influence of alcohol. The operator was arrested and charged with Operation While Impaired (BAC over 80). His licence was suspended for 90 days. The stop was part of a broader enforcement blitz that produced 14 charges across the Kawartha Lakes that weekend, including five Liquor Licence Act charges and nine small vessel regulation charges.
