Overview — Hastings Area — CHS Charted Anchorages

This is one of the few CHS-charted anchorages on the Trent River, verified in both the 2021 and 2025 editions of CEN309. Two positions are shown on the chart upstream of Kilometre 88 (Mile 55).

The south shore anchorage must be approached from the north due to a rocky patch with only 3 feet (0.9 m) of water approximately 500 feet WNW of the position. The north shore anchorage has a mud bottom and can be approached safely from the south.

The north-side option is recommended for most boaters.

🧤 Captain’s Anchorage Notes

One of the few spots on the Trent with official CHS chart backing for the anchorage position. The north-side mud-bottom anchorage is the no-brainer choice — clean approach from the south, verified bottom type. The south-side position has that nasty 3-foot rocky patch that's easy to miss.

Hastings itself is a solid provisioning stop — everything you need is within a block and a half of the lock. Farm-fresh vegetables can be purchased within 50 feet of the upper wall tie-up.

§8

⚠️ Hazards & Warnings

CRITICAL CHS CAUTION: South shore anchorage has a rocky patch with depth of 3 feet (0.9 m) approximately 500 feet (152 m) WNW of the anchorage position. Approach south shore anchorage from NORTH ONLY. North shore anchorage (mud bottom) can be approached safely from the south.
