Cherry Point is a well-protected anchorage in the inner Georgian Bay islands, north of Deer Island and roughly 10 km west of Lock 45 at Port Severn. With excellent all-round protection from surrounding islands, 15 ft of depth, and good holding, this is one of the more secure overnight spots in the area. A charted submerged cable crosses the area — anchor before it, not over it.

Scenic notes: Typical Georgian Bay beauty — granite shores fringed with pine, clear water, and the quiet of the inner islands. North of Deer Island the setting is intimate and sheltered, with the rugged Canadian Shield landscape on every side.
Cherry Point lies in the inner island archipelago of Georgian Bay, closer to the TSW terminus than many Georgian Bay anchorages. Lock 45 at Port Severn is approximately 10 km to the east — this is the final lock on the Trent-Severn Waterway before entering Georgian Bay, with a 3.7 m (12 ft) lift. The inner islands provide dramatically better protection than the open bay, and this anchorage benefits from that island shelter on all sides.

The key rule here is simple: anchor before the charted submerged cable. Do NOT set your hook over the cable — it is marked on charts and you must identify its position before choosing your spot. With that respected, Cherry Point offers excellent protection and good holding in 15 ft. The surrounding islands block wind and wave from all directions, making this a reliable anchorage even when Georgian Bay is acting up. Confirm your position on the chart relative to Deer Island and the cable before committing.
Charted submerged cable — do NOT anchor over it. Identify the cable's charted position before selecting your anchoring spot and set your hook well clear of it. Rocky shoreline and submerged granite typical of Georgian Bay. Navigate with chart and sounder when approaching through the islands.
