🧤 Captain’s Anchorage Notes

Approach from the main Pigeon Lake channel and favour the eastern shore. Minimum depth is 6 feet, so watch your draft in close. Holding is good in the soft bottom typical of this part of Pigeon Lake. Set your hook with enough scope to account for any afternoon wind shift — the exposure here is real. Lock 32 at Bobcaygeon is approximately 5 km to the west if you need to transit.

§8

⚠️ Hazards & Warnings

The main concern here is exposure. Southerly or westerly winds can build significant waves across the open lake. This is not an anchorage to ride out a blow. Monitor weather carefully and have an exit plan — Big Bob Channel toward Bobcaygeon offers shelter approximately 5 km to the west.

Seasonal: Best suited to summer settled weather patterns. Afternoon thermals on Pigeon Lake tend to come from the southwest, which puts this anchorage directly in the chop. Early morning and evening hours are typically calmer. Avoid in spring and fall when frontal systems bring sustained southerly or westerly winds.
