Scriver Island sits at mile marker 54.5 on the Trent River, between Hastings and Rice Lake, marked by red daybeacon T406. The anchorage offers 5 to 6 feet of water on either shore of the island, providing a quiet river stop in an otherwise transit-focused section of the waterway.
The holding here is fair — the bottom tends toward weedy, which means your anchor may need a firm set to bite through to the mud beneath. The narrow, tree-lined river provides natural all-around protection from both wind and wake, making this a sheltered spot despite the modest depth.
This stretch of the Trent River passes through relatively flat agricultural country between Healey Falls and Rice Lake. The river corridor itself is well treed and feels removed from the surrounding farmland. Scriver Island is one of the few anchorage options in this section, offering a place to pause on what is otherwise a long run between locks.

All-around protection from both wind and wake. The narrow, tree-lined river channel eliminates any meaningful fetch, and the island itself provides additional shelter. This is one of the more naturally protected anchorages on the Trent River section — wind simply cannot build here regardless of direction.
| Dinghy Access | ✗ No |
| Shore Access | No formal public shore access at the anchorage. The island itself may be accessible by dinghy depending on water levels and shoreline conditions. The surrounding riverbanks are predominantly private agricultural land. |

Nearest provisioning: Hastings village is located at Lock 18, approximately 5 km downstream. The village has basic grocery, hardware, and fuel services. This is a small community — do not expect full provisioning, but essentials are available.
Scenic notes: A quiet river setting with mature trees lining both banks. The scenery is pleasant but unremarkable — typical Trent River lowland corridor with flat agricultural country beyond the tree line. The appeal here is the sense of peaceful isolation rather than dramatic landscape. The island adds some visual interest to an otherwise uniform river reach.
Scriver Island is located on the Trent River between Hastings and Rice Lake, in the section of the waterway that runs from Healey Falls downstream toward the lake. The river here passes through flat agricultural country, though the immediate riverbanks are well treed and provide a sense of enclosure.
Lock 18 at Hastings lies approximately 5 km downstream, with a lift of 4.6 metres (15 feet). Upstream, the waterway continues toward Rice Lake, where the character changes from river navigation to open-lake cruising. This section of the Trent River is relatively straightforward — a narrow, marked channel without the rock hazards found on the upper system.

Scriver Island is a practical river anchorage — nothing fancy, but it does the job when you need a stop between Hastings and Rice Lake. The 5 to 6 feet of depth limits this to shallower-draft boats or those comfortable with tight margins, and the weedy bottom means you should give your hook a proper reverse test before settling in.
You can anchor on either side of the island at red daybeacon T406. The choice depends on wind direction and where other boats have settled. The tree-lined banks provide excellent protection from wind and wake on both sides — this is a narrow river section, so there is no fetch to speak of regardless of wind direction.
The weedy bottom is the main consideration. Fair holding means you may need to reset if the anchor sits on top of the weed mat rather than digging through. A lunch hook here is straightforward; for an overnight stay, take the time to ensure you are well set. If you draw more than 3.5 feet, sound carefully before committing — the 5-to-6-foot range does not leave much margin for error.
Weedy bottom can prevent anchors from reaching firm holding ground. Set the hook through the weed layer and reverse-test before committing. The 5-to-6-foot depth leaves limited margin for deeper-draft vessels — sound carefully on approach. Maintain awareness of through-traffic in the river channel, particularly during peak season.
