Lock 09 Meyers consistently earns mentions from Great Loopers as one of the most attractive lockstations on the entire TSW. The heritage 1914 lockmaster’s house, the Centennial Trail running south to Percy Reach, and Parks Canada’s Ôasis glamping pods make this a destination stop rather than just a transit point. Northbound Loopers who have been moving steadily from Trenton will find this a natural place to slow down — walk the trail, fish the reach, or simply sit on the lawn and watch the lock operate. At 4.9 m16 ft of lift and lighter traffic than the lower locks, it is an unhurried lockage in a genuinely beautiful setting. Fellow Loopers and current trip reports for this section can be found through AGLCA.
Lock 09 — Meyers sits on the east side of the Trent River at Kilometre 42.5 (Mile 26.4), connected to Lock 08 Percy Reach by a narrow canal approximately 2 km1.2 mi in length. Just 1.2 km0.8 mi upstream lies Lock 10 Hagues Reach. With a lift of 4.9 m16 ft, Meyers is one of the quieter stations in the Trent section — a secluded lock surrounded by farmland, mature trees, and gently rolling countryside. Parks Canada describes it as one of the prettiest lockstations on the entire waterway. The Centennial Trail connects Lock 09 to Lock 08 Percy Reach along the shoreline, making it an attractive stop for walkers and cyclists as well as boaters.
Lock 09 was constructed circa 1914 as part of the Trent Canal system, which was completed through to Port Severn by 1920. The lock is part of the slack-water system characteristic of this section of the waterway, where dams were built to control water flow and level, with locks constructed to bypass them. The restored lockmaster’s house, dating to approximately 1914, is one of the heritage structures on the Trent-Severn Waterway and now serves as the lockstation office and houses public washrooms. Parks Canada also operates Ôasis glamping pods at the lower reach of Lock 09, offering teardrop-shaped accommodation with campfire and canoe access. No recent capital works notices specific to Lock 09 were found as of March 2026.
For boaters, Lock 09 Meyers offers a genuinely peaceful overnight stop. The lower mooring area is particularly sheltered from wind, making it a favoured tie-up for those transiting northbound through the Trent section. The grounds are spacious with ample grass, BBQs, and picnic tables located on the downstream side. Washrooms in the historic lockmaster’s house are well-maintained and generously sized. Arriving in the afternoon allows time to walk the Centennial Trail back toward Percy Reach before settling in for the evening. The nearest town services are in Campbellford, a short drive north.

No-drama approach northbound. The dam sits way off to the other side of the old river basin that used to flow through here — it doesn’t generate any turbulence or current in the canal at all. The only time you’ll see any current or turbulence on approach is if the lock is draining for down-bound traffic ahead of you, and even then it’s manageable. You’re also pretty well protected from wind here. Easy approach, easy lock. Nothing to overthink at Meyers.
