Douglas Island sits on the east side of Katchewanooka Lake, roughly midway between Lock 26 (Lakefield) and Lock 27 (Youngs Point). Tuck in behind the island on its south or east side for 10-12 feet of water over mud bottom with good holding. The island blocks wind and wake from the main channel, making this a comfortable 1-2 boat anchorage. A practical overnight stop if you want to stage for an early lockage at Youngs Point or arrived late from Lakefield. Minimal facilities — this is a quiet hook-and-hold spot, not a destination.

Disclosure: I have not personally anchored behind Douglas Island, nor have I inspected this location up close. This entry is based on third-party reports (cited as Sailing Breezes) and has not been field-verified. I plan to inspect this anchorage during the 2026 season and will update this entry with first-hand observations at that time. Until then, treat the depth and hazard information as unconfirmed and exercise your own judgment. The CHS caution about foul ground on Katchewanooka Lake should be taken seriously.
CAUTION: Although there are reports of vessels anchoring behind Douglas Island, the CHS Sailing Directions (CEN309) specifically warns that the central area of Katchewanooka Lake contains foul ground caused by dense weeds and large stumps, and that boaters should not leave the marked channel. Approach with caution and use your depth sounder and polarized glasses before committing to an anchor position. Weed fouling of the anchor and rode is likely. Submerged stumps are a potential hazard — do not anchor in darkness or without visual confirmation of bottom conditions.
